MISSION STATEMENT
After years of promoting the American art scene, Compound Gallery has realized that something is missing... independent and underground Japanese artists have no voice here and we want to change that. Each time we travel to Japan, we meet more of these exceptional artists, and are impressed by their innovative, fresh ideas. At the same time, the American art scene is hungry for new and original artists to follow. It is time to expose the American audience to Japanese artworks. It is time to bring together the American art collector and the Japanese artist. This is our goal at Compound Gallery.

Fates & Origins: Jen Lobo-Simpson and Elizabeth Haidle
Feb 07 - 29 2008
Reception: February 7th @ 7:00pm

JEN LOBO-SIMPSON jenlobo.com
Jen Lobo has always had a great affinity for all things feathered, furry, avian and aquatic. Her work explores themes of exploration and the interrelation of humans and nature with a hint of anthropomorphism. With her current body of work, Jen examines the notion of discovery and the implications of ownership.

Jen currently lives in Pasadena, CA with her husband, their three children, and a small brood of animal companions.

ELIZABETH HAIDLE ehaidle.com
Elizabeth Haidle grew up in Hillsboro, Oregon; mentored by her father, a lithographer, and locally reknowned artist, Judy Vogland. She had the opportunity to publish her own children's book at age 13 - this led to invitations to present workshops across the country, over the next 15 years, inspiring other children & teenagers to write and illustrate.

She attended schools in L.A., Seattle, Portland, and Savannah, finishing up with an MA in illustration at Savannah College in Art & Design.

Shortly after, she moved to Philadelphia to join a stop-motion animation start-up called 'Faux Pas Films', writing a short piece that was featured in the Philly Independent Film Festival. Art education became a prominent part of her life; she taught experimental printmaking at Oasis Art Center & Gallery from 2001-2005, and various book-making projects in South Philadelphia gradeschools, in collaboration with Fleischer Art Foundation. In 2001, Elizabeth became involved with Spector Gallery/Spector Projects, exhibiting fine art and producing work for limited edition prints.

As of 2006, she has been freelancing from a remote community in the mountains of northern New Mexico, recently spawning a product site called 'Minutiae Laboratories', publishing mini-comics, fine art prints & posters. Raising a toddler remains her most difficult, but rewarding, assignment to date.
