MISSION STATEMENT
After years of promoting the American art scene, Compound Gallery has realized that something is missing... independent and underground Japanese artists have no voice here and we want to change that. Each time we travel to Japan, we meet more of these exceptional artists, and are impressed by their innovative, fresh ideas. At the same time, the American art scene is hungry for new and original artists to follow. It is time to expose the American audience to Japanese artworks. It is time to bring together the American art collector and the Japanese artist. This is our goal at Compound Gallery.

Mixed Media Paintings by Jordin Isip, Robert Mars, and Brandon McLean

Bio- For me, my art evokes feelings of my childhood and the goodness associated with that time in my life. Neon signs and classic automobiles bring back memories of summertime roadtrips with my family, passing through small towns and past large cities. Stopping at roadside motels after a long day of travel. The glow and buzz of neon became a comfort for the weary.

My paintings use layers of colors familiar from that time, coupled with stark, black imagery. Quiet landscapes that speak of the lost highway strips of the American past. Industrial design, graphic design, architecture and neon all play important roles in my work.

Bio-This mess of art that I have come up with started when a blood clot stuck itself in the right side of my brain on May the 1st 2000. The medical term is a stroke, and @ 18 it was a pretty crazy experience, crawling around on my hands and knees through a college dorm parking lot; it was 7:30am. I was pretty much back to normal real quick, except for some minor sensation changes in my hands, and have just come to feel that from that experience all of my self was changed. And the art comes from that void; that area in the right cereberal artery where oxygen was held back for awhile..at least I think so, but art is pretty fun to do and it beats being bored..

I aim to not take art that serious; Instead just develing in the unknown bits of the pieces I spit out..I am so intrigued by the mysteries behind people; the curiosity of their quiet eyes, this split second of an unknown life, how did they get to that point? And what happened to them..?

Jordin Isip

Bio- Using people as the subjects of colorful and haunting paintings, Isip’s incorporation of scraps of litter, trash, discarded magazines and other detritus of New York City streets results in images that are as much about the art-making process than the new language and allegories he presents. Though these narratives are based on personal experiences and growing obsessions endured over the past two years, they retain an ambiguity through symbolism and mulitple layers of meaning leaving them open to interpretation by the viewer. Isip’s iconic figures ------ simultaneously primitive and urban ------ tell of the human condition: conflicted, chaotic and insular.

Jordin Isip was born and raised in Queens, New York. Since receiving his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design he has lived and worked in Brooklyn, NY. His mixed-media images have in numerous periodicals including Adbusters, The Atlantic Monthly, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Surfer and Time as well as on book covers, posters, t-shirts, records and cds. His artwork has been exhibited nationally in galleries in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco as well as internationally in London, Manila, Paris, and Rome. Jordin teaches at Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institute.
