SHOWSAlan Rose was born and raised in rural Nebraska, but has lived in the Pacific Northwest for the past 35 years. He is a graduate of The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Before taking up painting full time, he had worked for many years as a graphic designer and as a freelance illustrator and cartoonist. Alan Rose creates images of ordinary people in everyday situations, but with a quirky, offbeat point of view. Alan uses intuition and spontaneity to develop ideas, looking for the right balance of seriousness, silliness and ambiguity. His loose, scribbly drawings evolve into constrained, precise acrylic paintings. Alanís imagery is flat, cartoony and controlled, a style that suits his preference for edgy but droll humor. He likes his paintings to be enigmatic, accessible, and thought-provoking. And a little off the wall.
